[edit] Ixions_Revenge@USEast
Ixion started playing StarCraft in the fall of 2003. After having played only the first three missions of single player, he began playing online as a common interest between co-workers and friends.
[edit] Early Years
Originally aliased as Oberon42, Ixion went onto the USEast Gateway to play StarCraft as a hobby with friends and co-workers after a long day at work. The channel of choice, which was conceived by his good friend icedragonmo3, was "swbk". It is an anagram, improvised as a meeting place on the first night he was challenged to play. This was the beginning of his online experience but more about "swbk" will be discussed later.
At this point, all of his games were played on normal speed, which was fine for him and his friend(s).
Roughly a month later he challenged another friend to play using "swbk" as the same meeting place. This eventually became a nightly-after-work-competition and continued on for the next year. Only he and his friends knew that "swbk" even existed.
This is about where Starcraft.org came into the picture. He, being somewhat cocky in his new found skill and knowledge, began voicing his opinions on Starcraft.org. At the time him and his friend were in a stage where they were still learning all the basics of the game. Using Big Game Hunters in either 1v1 melee(with a mutal agreement not to use carriers, because neither of them were skilled enough to stop them) or 2vsComps. Many of you may remember him advocating the legitamacy of money maps as skill-worthy battlefields. Though he still believes that Money Maps are an important step to learning the basics of the game, excessive use cause players to turtle, and to lack the dynamic skills required for non-money play.
So nearly a year went by at Starcraft.org and he became increasingly known there. Having come in second in Schwitzer's competition, which was a race to 200 supply... He lost to BlueMicroByte but did the competition on normal speed so the time was actually much higher then it should have been.
He was noted for being quoted on the main page during a poll on the zerg equivelent to the observer, in which he argued his position on Queens instead of Overlords as the closest equal. At this stage in Starcraft.org history, management had become seemingly lax, as two potent spammers had arrived on the scene.
[edit] Ixion the "Vet"
By this time he had become somewhat of a respected member as well as a continually active one. Many of these members described themselves as "vets". These "vets" did what they could to help the management with the presentation of the site to new members. Either simply by making them feel welcome or helping them get a feel for what the site had to offer.
[edit] Legacy of Kirbyman and Bobo
"Vets" at the time included:
- Ixion
- Protogod
- DFIK
- GriffonHeart
- MasterKetchup
- Scififreak
- unholy-assassin
- Dragon.Paladin
- Brother_Green
- Maficus
- DeltaForce
- Geckat
- Hawthorne
- kirbyman1
- and others...
These members remained vested only in Starcraft.org. But fighting broke out between several "Vets" and some new members. This began a very large flame-war -- or fighting -- between members, quickly becoming one of the biggest such wars in the history of Starcraft.org.
Ixion assumed a neutral role, and in an effort to try end the fighting befriended the young spammer known as kirby and convince him that flaming was not the way to deal with people he disagreed with in discussions.
This fighting went on for close to a month and many members blamed the Staff for not dealing the spammers. The most respected and notible of which was BSTRhino. He was accused, unjustly, of allowing the spammers to continue their spree. It wasnt until later that Ixion learned the staff had been trying to stop the spammers, but were unable to do so for various reasons, one of the main ones being the unusual resourcefullness of the spammers. He also learned later through discussions with other "Vets" that the decision to lay blame never sat quite right with many of them.
As part of resolving issues between members, Ixion realized that only a real-time exchange had any hope of working. So he began looking for Kirby on battle.net. It wasnt more then an hour before signs of Kirby showed up on his friends list.
He found Kirby to be a very energetic yet persistent young teenager, whose tendency to rebell against authority often ended him up in a lot of trouble. Ixion also learned that Kirby persistence made him a willing yet modestly skilled opponent and a friend to many other battle.net users. Though Ixion's efforts to reason with Kirby eventually ended in failure, the decision to put Kirby on his friend's list proved to be a key moment in the history of the once secretive refuge of "swbk".

[edit] "swbk"
The specifics about the anagram which is swbk is only known to personal friends of Ixion, but this much can be said about it. Each day it grows in size and it has become far more then it ever could have been expected to be. A hangout for old and new bnet users alike. Channel "op swbk" on US East Gateway is a refuge for players seeking skill in an environment as gm(good mannered) as possible. Most players are forced to play public games or join a clan with idiotic conditions and often power hungry adolesencents for leaders. swbk is a place where the term noob is only passed jokingly between friends and never towards new players. The goal of swbk has always been to pass the torch to the next generation and create a nitch on bnet where you can always find a game and someone to teach you.
According to the log kept by the Stealthbot swbk which holds ops over the channel, between the dates of October 7th and November 5, 2006, 191 users were entered and roughly 30 of which are found there on a day to day basis. The highest traffic is found during weekday between 3-10pm with roughly 5 players in channel at any given time and weekends in the evening with roughly 12 people in the channel.
The admins of swbk are as follows:
- Ixion aka Ixions_Revenge, Ixions, nw.Ixion, Yangus, Dark_Defiler . Owner of the Stealthbot swbk, head admin, and primary programmer. Co-Admin of Shakuras forums
- Bluc aka Bluc_Gillier, Metal_Slime, Hulkamaniac . Co-Owner of swbk and personal friend of Ixions.
- Lost aka nw.Lost . Lead Admin and shakuras tournament champion twice.
- Salv aka Salv, Salvatore . Deputy Admin and early morning authority.
- Snot aka Snot[sk], Snotsr. Deputy Admin and moderator of Sakuras
- U-238 aka skyraider.wb Lead moderator and Leader of the Warboards clan.
also
- kvil aka kvil0[sk], kvil0 Lead Admin of swbk US West Gateway
The guardian of swbk is the Stealthbot which holds ops over the channel. Many are weary of any sort of authority and so hate it's presence. It's force is rarely needed but provides stability, and it's programming livens up the channel. Custom greetings and channel statistics are available to all, and as well as all the other stock commands for a Stealthbot provided you have enough access.
.newusers lists all users joined today. .users lists the number of users since October 7th. .addgreet <Greeting> will provide you with your own custom greeting whenever you enter the channel. You can delete your greeting with .addgreet All greetings are generally whispered so you can personalize them all you like.
swbk's popularity can only be contributed to it's unorthodoxed and inviting atmosphere as well as mentioning on forums such as Shakuras Warboards and bscorg, as well as word of mouth from bnet players. It's future has no foreseeable end and should survive as long as Battle.net itself does.
