Skippy was the name of Kong's brother during his lie, and it was his name for nearly a year afterwards. It isn't recommended that you call Kong by the name of skippy, as it makes him very irratible, and you don't want that.
From his own words, skippy was a generic and quick name that was meant to be a quick replacement for Kongurous. It's also the name of a brand of peanut butter, and Kong loves peanut butter.
