[edit] StarCraft.org
Sometime around June 2001, a newb calling himself General-X happened to discover StarCraft.org while searching the internet. New to the concept of message boards, he quickly began to enjoy this novel means of communication with random people online. In addition the poor judgment in choosing such an unoriginal name, he also did well to butt heads with some of the intellectual giants present on the forums, such as SiegeTank. Not long after he joined the SC.org forums, the Legacy and ORG networks joined forces to launch BlizzForums, which replaced the independent forums run by the individual networks.
During one of General-X's periods of absence from the new site, Mystikal, not totally satisfied with the bulletin board system he had created first for SC.org and then extended to use at BF, requested money from network members to purchase a copy of vBulletin message board software. After the installation of the new system, members were required to re-register in order to access the new boards. Utilizing this opportunity to ditch the crummy name, General-X found inspiration for a new name while reading Tennyson's Idylls of the King. King Arthur's bastard son Modred (more commonly Mordred), struck the impressionable young member as an interesting character, and thus the new name was chosen.
[edit] Blizzforums
After the name change, Modred crafted his online identity anew. Before going in cognito, General-X had expressed very passionate support for the most strict forms of communism and totalitarianism. Despite distancing himself from these strong opinions upon his return, Modred frequently butted heads in the Serious Discussion forum and generally made a fool of himself. Like a fly to a bug zapper, he invariably entered the forum at his own peril, posted ill-planned arguments, took a severe beating, retreated, and prepared the cycle for another round.
Luckily for Modred, he discovered a growing community at BlizzForums for playing the Diplomacy board game. Already familiar with the game, he dove head first into the new community, at times participating in upwards of twenty games concurrently. This gross indulgence and overcommitment, shared among several regular members of the Diplomacy community, eventually led to a rapid decline in participation. However, several old timers stuck through the dull periods and the hobby survived at BF for the time.
[edit] WarBoards
The split between ORG and Legacy networks occurred during another of Modred's absences, and only by chance did he discover the new ORG hangout during the rare visit payed to Starcraft.org. Following the link to the new site, he registered under the same name and proceeded to integrate himself into the new community, which at the time consisted mostly of familiar faces from the BF scene. Some wisecracks have been made that he joined an internet forum the day before Valentine's Day; however, as nothing special generally happens on the day before Valentine's Day, Modred sees nothing wrong with the date on which he joined.
[edit] Diplomacy
As previously at BlizzForums, Modred worked to build up a Diplomacy community at the new forums. Though small at first, the players eventually grew in number to a point where AJ deemed it worthwhile to grant them their own forum, the Diplomacy Headquarters. Initially a sub-forum of the Online Roleplaying board, and later moved to it's own spot, the Diplo HQ has gone through multiple periods of relative inactivity, but Modred somehow manages to turn up almost every time an upswing in interest occurs.
[edit] DotORG
For a short while during the summer of 2005, Modred also contributed the occasional article to the DotORG, the semi-official newsletter of the ORG Network, created by MarkPyro to distribute content created by ORG Network users to the community. Modred's contributions included an article on his favorite obsession, Diplomacy, a meager attempt at criticizing US policy in regard to the United Nations, and a few movie reviews. Upon starting university in autumn 2005, Modred found himself writing less and less for the DotORG, despite having begun but not completed multiple articles meant for publication. By the time publication of the DotORG ceased, Modred no longer contributed any content on a regular basis.
