From ORG Wiki
Ray "BSTRhino" Hidayat (September 13, 1987 - present) is the current webmaster for Starcraft.org, and his main contribution to WarBoards.org is his knowledge of StarCraft modding.
[edit] History as a staff member
In 2001, BSTRhino was the moderator of the StarCraft Legacy SCM/SCX and customs forums. Starting 2003, BSTRhino returned to become a moderator of the maps and mods depot at BlizzForums. At the end of 2004, BSTRhino took on a programmer position at Starcraft.org, possibly ensuring the survival of the site which appeared to be reaching the end of its life. BSTRhino entirely recoded all sections of Starcraft.org, cleaning out all bugs and bringing the site back to a useable state. He also automated the new Starcraft.org customs section, the feedback system, updated and redesigned the downloads pages, and brought the Starcraft.org weekly poll to life for the first time in years. By the end of 2005, Starcraft.org was received 1000 more visitors per day than it had been receiving at the start of BSTRhino's work on Starcraft.org.
However, the Starcraft.org content management system just could not be fixed entirely. One of the many security holes in the system was exploited by a worm attack which hit Starcraft.org over Christmas 2005. After the worm attack, Mystikal brought online the new Starcraft.org CMS, Ixius 2, and Gibb announced BSTRhino as the new webmaster of Starcraft.org.
Currently, BSTRhino is working on a new CMS for Starcraft.org called Ixius 3, which will revolutionise the way submissions are organised on the website.
Besides Starcraft.org, BSTRhino has also lead two official mapping and modding teams for the ORG Network and for BlizzForums, the first called BlizzSCUMS, the second named the Starchitects. The Starchitects remain known as the most successful StarCraft mapping and modding team of all time.
[edit] History as a StarCraft modder
It is not known exactly when BSTRhino first became a StarCraft modder, but it is expected to be somewhere during the year 2000. His greatest achievement has been the invention of the Doom Mod Series, which unlocked the power of iscript editing, an aspect of modding which had never been fully understood before the Doom series. Some see the Doom mods as the primary reason as to why StarCraft modding is so popular today.
Besides the Doom mod series, BSTRhino has also discovered the use a large proportion of the various iscript instructions that are available, and a lot of the effects that are seen in today's mods were seen first in the Doom mod series. These effects include things like, units jumping, spinning, trampling other units, shooting scattered bullets and also special weapon effects like the 360-degree weapon spray, mid-flight weapon damage, acid trails, subterranean spine type weapons and making the psionic storm last longer. Before the Doom mod series, effects like these were never thought to be possible.
Due to the popularity of the Doom mod series, WarBoards.org has become the most concentrated forum for modders who specialise in iscript, and features more competent iscript modders than any other forum.
[edit] The Doom mod series
Primarily, the Doom mod series was invented to show non-modders what was possible, and so it consists of three unbalanced mods that are only designed to impress. Currently the Doom mod series consists of three mods:
- Doom Dragoon - created in 2003, this mod makes the Protoss super-powerful.
- Terran Doom - created in 2004, this mod makes the Terrans super-powerful.
- Zerg Doom - created in 2005, this mod makes the Zerg super-powerful.
The Doom mods were highly well-received and have inspired the many people to learn about modding.
[edit] In real life...
BSTRhino loves to meet new people and be silly with friends. BSTRhino is also part of the club Student Life, which is a Christian club at his university, the University of Canterbury. He is a great fan of Student Life and thoroughly enjoys hanging around with all of the fun people there, and hearing all of their fascinating stories.
